Jewelry Term: Earrite Earrings by Boucher

This summer Vintage Jewelry Girl will be introducing you to a list of vintage jewelry terms. You may have heard some of these before and you may not. Join in the discussion!

Today's Term: Earrite Earrings. What are they? The Earrite earring is a design patented by Boucher in the 1950's and it is a style of earring with no screw or clip. Maybe he was trying to say that because of this they are just right? They wrap around the ear, showing a design element at the top as well as the bottom of the ear.  Have you seen these before? Maybe you own some? What do you think of them? Would you wear them?

  3. Hi, there! I just discovered your blog and saw this post.
I've seen this concept before but didn't know that there was an actual term for this. The model, Anouck Lepere, had a line of earrite earring jewelry quite a number of years ago. She based the concept on a piece of jewelry she'd lost that she had found in a small shop in Belgium. Perhaps it was a vintage Boucher?

  5. Boucher is definitely a sought after vintage jewelry maker. If you search E-bay, you will see a big resurgence in the "over the ear style". Whenever you speak vintage jewelry, the name boucher is sure to crop up under the "quality" part of the conversation...Definitely ahead of his time!

  6. Did not know that Boucher had these out. Great piece of info. I may have just passed an item like this by thinking it was modern. But, if you're looking for vintage, Boucher is a top name designer. He also made pieces for Avon (Avon signed in script and not related to our AVON of today)but generally these pieces were numbered and not signed. Thanks for this eye-opening post-Rob

  7. Thanks for your comments! I believe that in doing my research on these, there was one other company that made a similar style. However, that was a while ago and I am not entirely certain on that. I do know that they are quite hard to find so make sure you don't pass them up if you come across them!

Boucher did design an Avon of Belleville line which was a very nice quality as well. I have had pieces from this line. You can see some of the pieces here.

  9. Vintage Jewelry girl, there were many companies that made these, not just Boucher and one other. Coro, Kramer, and Juliana (which often tend to run at an even higher price point than the Bouchers) come to mind. I'm an avid collector of these and save photos, advertisements, and anything else I can relating to this jewelry style. My current collection stands at about 35 and counting. My Bouchers are still far and away my favorite!
